According to NFPA 96 "Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations 2008 Edition" it is now required that you be "certified" to clean hoods and ducts of commercial cooking establishments.

Certified Hood & Duct Cleaners Association now offers a correspondence exam for existing kitchen exhaust cleaners to become certified.  If you want to become certified by CHDCA, this exam is just for you.  CHDCA's Lifetime membership does not expire, which means that you will not have to keep spending your hard earned money every year and have very little to show for it.  As long as you are actively cleaning kitchen exhaust systems, your membership will remain active.  We keep you up to date on all industry changes and your certification renews annually at no cost.

The 140 question exam is based off of the NFPA 96 2008 edition and prior experience with cleaning kitchen exhaust systems.

If you or your employees need certification following the latest NFPA 96 standards, then this course is for you.

You must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for this exam:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Own, operate or be an employee of a kitchen exhaust cleaning business in the United States or Canada with at least 1 year of experience.  If you do not have one year of experience then you will need to go through our much more intensive hood cleaning school to become certified.
  • Provide proof of insurance
  • Provide at least 10 client references (hoods that you have cleaned in the past 6 months)
  • Provide 10 sets of before/after pictures of your cleaning
  • Purchase a copy of the NFPA 96 2008 standards.

The following is included:

  • Administration of the Certified Hood & Duct Cleaners Association's written Certification Exam via proctor.
  • Certified Hood & Duct Cleaner (CHDC) certification from Certified Hood and Duct Cleaners Association
  • Lifetime membership into the Certified Hood & Duct Cleaners Association

Price:

  • LIFETIME OPTION:  $2,500 per person for the Lifetime option
  • Payment due at registration.
